Fuels and Lubricants Meeting was initially held by SAE alone. Due to a policy change, however, SAE decided to organize the conference twice a year, one in spring as an international and the other as domestic. It was 2000 when the 1st conference took place in Paris, France as the onset of the international meeting. Since then, JSAE jointly with SAE held the meeting twice in Japan in the past such as 2003F&L Yokohama and 2007F&L Kyoto.

In consideration of remarkable growth in powertrain technologies we have seen recently, JSAE decided to expand the technology areas on this occasion and rename the conference as 2011 Powertrains, Fuels and Lubricants Meeting. The meeting consists of technical paper presentations and special events. Technical papers cover areas including combustion, emission, fuels & lubricants, control & measurements and new powertrains. In the special events, JSAE will organize 3-Keynote Speech, 5-Technical Workshop and 1 Executive Panel Session in addition to Engine/Machinery Exhibit during the meeting.
