 Prince Skyline 2000GT S54
image
The Skyline GT was released in 1964. This car was a result of studying the lessons of the first Japanese Grand Prix in an effort to boost the overall strength of the company to compete at the second Grand Prix. Authorization for GT cars could only be received when 100 or more units of the same model were built, which meant that the first Skyline GT had to be rushed into production. This was the Prince Skyline GT S54A-1. Entered into the GT-II race at the second Grand Prix, this car delighted the crowds by briefly leading a Porsche 904. The B model had an output of 125 ps thanks to the addition of Weber carburetors to the standard 105 ps engine (model A). The B model became standard in 1965, and was released as the Skyline 2000GT (later the 2000GT-B). The Skyline shown in this picture (number 39) is the car that placed second at the second Japanese Grand Prix.
