・This was the first front-wheel, front-engine Familia. It offered a good balance of the various functions demanded in a car at a high level, and was awarded the first Japanese Car of the Year award. ・The XG model, with its red body, 3 doors and 1500 cc engine caused a boom among younger drivers. ・The 1980 Familia featured various new technologies, including the SS suspension (subsequently awarded a prize from the JSAE), the first application of tapered coil springs in its class, fully flat folding front seats, sliding sunroof (electric, manual), etc.
