The new Galant that debuted in 1996 was the eighth generation. It was equipped with a world-leading extremely high-efficient 1.8-liter gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine. This engine reduced fuel consumption by 35%, while boosting power by 10%. Its 35% reduction in CO2 emissions also contributed to global environmental protection and helped address energy issues. In addition, the vehicle was known for its dynamic performance due to the pairing of the GDI engine with the INVECS-II sports mode 4A/T that enabled enjoyable shift operations similar to a manual transmission.
GDI was later employed in Galant models equipped with 2.0 and 2.4-liter engines. |
