・ Receiving an order to make a diesel engine for both trunks and passenger cars from the army driving school, the high speed metering and water-cooled type diesel engine DA40 was completed and delivered in March 1939.
・ The army driving school compared the engine with other competing engines, and conducted many running, cold area, and alternative fuel tests, etc. before employing the engine as an official engine for 5-liter class army trucks.
・ The Ministry of Commerce and Industry also designated it as an official engine, thus it became the representative mass-produced diesel engine of Japan for both military and private trucks and buses in wartime. Even after the war, it was source of innovation in the transportation sector for a long period. Through increased displacement and repeated improvement, the engine had a product life of almost half a century.
・ It is the origin of Isuzu's diesel engines.
