・ The world's smallest direct injection medium truck diesel engine with 0.9 L displacement per cylinder.
・A unique square toroidal shape was used for the combustion chamber, which allowed appropriate swirl matching in a wide rotation area, contributing to the improvement of emissions performance.
・ For the cylinder liner, a dry type 1.5 mm-thick chromard liner with high durability was used.
・ Glow plugs were set to the cylinder heads to aid starting for the first time in the world in a direct injection engine. This realized good startability even in cold weather at –25 degrees.
・ It marked the beginning of the shift to direct injection type engines for small to medium size trucks.
・ The 6B series engine was developed and manufactured as a 4-/6-cylinder series engine, and widely used for Isuzu small-sized trucks (Elf), medium-sized trucks (Forward), and industrial and marine use.

Points of interest, topicality:・ The shape of the piston combustion chamber was a patented special square toroidal type. It allowed appropriate swirl matching in a wide rotation area and excellent emissions performance, marking the beginning of the adoption of anomalously shaped combustion chambers.
・ The engine received the JSME Award in 1973 as the direct injection engine with the smallest displacement per cylinder in the world

Features:・ Direct injection type diesel engine
・ Square toroidal type combustion chamber

- Glow plugs were used in the starting system for the first time in a direct injection engine.
・ 4-/6-cylinder series engine
