The system supports driver's awareness of pedestrians ahead of the vehicle when driving at night.
1. The system enhances the driver's forward view at night by displaying far-infrared images on a headup display in front of the driver on the instrument panel.
2. At 30 km/h and above, the system automatically recognizes pedestrians at the side of the road and on crossings close to the vehicle. The driver is informed of their presence by an outlining frame around the pedestrian image and an audible alert (beeping).

Introduction:System configuration and operation
Together with the vehicle information from the yaw rate sensor etc., 2 images of the stereo far-infrared camera installed at the lower part of the front bumper are inputted into the pedestrian detection ECU installed behind the rear seat and the processed images are outputted to the headup display.
In addition, the signal to request an attention reminder sound is outputted to the combination meter based on the detection information judged by the pedestrian detection ECU, and the combination meter issues the reminder sound from a built-in buzzer.

System operation range
◆The viewable range of pedestrians using the far-infrared radiation image is approximately 250 m ahead.
The distance for reminder (sound and enhancement display)
Approximately 40-50 m at 40 km/h, approximately 60-70 m at 60 km/h
◆Conditions for detection of pedestrians
・Pedestrians within approximately 1.5 m to the left and right of the vehicle
・Pedestrians within image range of approximately 12 deg ahead
