In 1981, the Honda Electro Gyrocator emerged as the world's first map-based navigation system. It was later improved as a digital map navigation system and Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. commercialized the Birdview Navigation system that adopted an overhead view for the first time in the world in 1995. Furthermore, in 2003, the Honda Internavi Premium Club, the world's first Floating Car System was commercialized in combination with information communication technology. This system collects traffic information from vehicles and provides it to users.

In June 1995, the "Birdview TM" that provides an overhead view to the horizon on the navigation screen was put into practical use.

Performance function:For the three-dimensional birdview, a dedicated LSI was adopted in addition to a conventional 32-bit CPU, which enabled the color display of three-dimensional landforms.
In particular, non-flat landforms are visually expressed naturally, using gradation based on ample display colors and human visual features. As a result, it became possible for drivers to relate the display with the view around the vehicle simply. The sense of unity with the view is increased dramatically when driving through mountains and valleys.

Effect:Screen information with a high sense of unity with the actual view, allows the driver to grasp the driving environment ahead in advance to make driving more comfortable and relaxing. It also aids information for safety (safety technology that enables risk prediction).
Furthermore, the necessary map information is expressed in natural and realistic images at all times. In addition, the beautiful and relaxing images create a soothing space based on a concept of background graphics (BGG) in the same way as background music (BGM).
