Many organizations such as ITS Japan and IIC (Internet ITS Consortium) have been working to promote the government-private sector joint research in telematics.
Automobile manufacturers use the communication system provided by mobile phones to link information centers with in-vehicle equipment in real time and provide services. The concrete details of the service are unique to the individual companies.
--
This telematics service is the first proper system of its kind for commercial vehicles in Japan. In this system, data is collected from the respective control computers of the vehicle and transmitted over a packet communication network to provide advice effective to improving fuel efficiency and safety in real time.

Introduction:This is the first full-scale telematics service for commercial vehicles in Japan. It is also an advanced driving information system that provides driving conditions in real time by utilizing a packet communication network and GPS location information.
Its development has enabled the provision of detailed information such as fuel consumption, and accelerator/brake operation, which are difficult to collect by additional parts, as well as the provision of safe driving support.
It also allows fuel consumption and emissions to be controlled in a simple way, and provides strong support to the creation of energy-saving plans and results reports that employers are obligated to complete by law based on the revised Energy Use Law.
