| This motor scooter was manufactured by Mitsubishi and named the Silver Pigeon after the peace symbol of the dove. This model was developed based on the Motor Glide manufactured by the American manufacturer Salsbury, which was brought into Japan by Yasuji Maruyama, who lived in U.S. for more than 30 years and worked for a long time for General Motors. It used a belt-type continuously variable transmission. The Silver Pigeon and the Rabbit motor scooter manufactured by Fuji-Sangyo (now Fuji Heavy Industries Inc.) dominated the vehicle industry, and both became convenient means of transportation for ordinary people, who had lacked adequate transportation. A Silver Pigeon C-11 and a Rabbit were presented to His Imperial Highness the Emperor of Japan in May of 1948. |
