This engine featured zero emission technology for gasoline engines and was applied to the Nissan Sentra CA for North America and the Bluebird Sylphy in Japan. It cleared ultra-low emission standards by cleaning emissions by more than 50%. For a 1.8-liter (2WD) vehicle, emissions of nitrogen oxide (NOx) and nonmethane hydrocarbons (NMHC) were reduced by 75% with respect to the 2005 emission gas regulations (SU-LEV). Its features are as follows. ・A high speed jet type high swirl combustion effective for reducing exhaust emissions from the engine ・An ultra low heat mass carrier catalyst that improves catalyst temperature rise performance and catalytic performance immediately after engine start (improved type). ・A two-stage high efficiency HC trapping catalyst system that temporarily traps HC immediately after engine start and eliminates it after catalytic activation (improved type). ・A high precision air-fuel ratio control system to achieve a better catalytic conversion rate. |
