・ In this engine, the conventional Mazda lean burn system based on induction swirl was combined with a carburetor that was developed based on the innovative idea of EGR introduction. This reduced NOx and achieved air-fuel ratio automatic correction control. ・The EGR was performed by two systems to recirculate gas to the intake system. Upstream EGR was mixed with the air bypassing the carburetor venturi, and then the air-fuel ratio was automatically corrected on EGR. ・It won the Science and Technology Agency Director-General's Award and the JSME Award as an exhaust gas system that conformed to the 1978 regulations due to its excellent fuel efficiency. |

| Points of interest, topicality | : | For this engine, a carburetor with an automatic air-fuel ratio correction that allows the A/F and EGR to be changed in accordance with each other was developed and adopted. This advanced technology enabled it to conform to the emission gas regulations of 1978. | |
| Features | : | The Mazda Stable Combustion System (SCS) realized improved fuel economy and low emissions by combining a swirl lean burn system and a new carburetor with automatic air-fuel ratio correction. | |
