Vehicle production regulations The rules of the competition shall be based on those for the 2008 US Formula SAE® event.
Note that the first information document regarding the local rules for the 6th Student Formula SAE Competition of Japan will be issued on January 31, 2008 (Thu.)
Entry registration and deadline Registration start : 10 am, January 21, 2008 (Mon.)

Registration fee If all team members (including Faculty Advisors (FA)) are members of the JSAE or members of societies of FISITA. : \50,000 per team
In all other cases : \150,000 per team

Participant requirements
◯Participating teams
-Each educational institute shall be permitted to submit only one team and one vehicle.
However, multiple teams shall be permitted if the institute has multiple campuses and a team is formed at each campus.
◯Participating team members
-1Team members shall be 18 years old or above, and as a rule, shall be students of national colleges of technology, junior colleges, universities, graduate schools, or similar education/training institutes.
Individuals who have graduated within seven months prior to the competition date are also eligible.
-All team members shall be students of the educational institute that registered the team.
-Drivers entering the competition shall be 18 years old or above and possess a valid government-issued driver's license for ordinary vehicles.
◯Faculty Advisors (FA)
-The principal FA shall be full-time members of the faculty staff of the educational institute to which the team belongs.
-A team may have multiple FA.
-The FA shall be responsible for issuing guidance to the team within the educational institute.
During the period of the competition, the FA may participate after registering in the same way as the team members and must accompany the team throughout this time.
◯Vehicle
-Teams are prohibited from entering vehicles that have competed in a previous Student Formula SAE Competition of Japan.
As a minimum requirement, at least the frame of the vehicle shall be newly designed.
◯Insurance
-All team members and FA shall take out an effective insurance policy to cover injury and medical treatment during the period of the competition.
In addition, all participants will be requested to sign a liability waiver upon registration at the venue.

65 teams (upper limit for number of teams taking part in 6th Competition)
Document screening
  • As the Student Formula SAE Competition is a test of monozukuri (object creation) and design, the details of the Design Report and other documents submitted in advance shall be subjected to screening.
  • Teams not submitting the Design Report (including the Design Spec Sheet) and Cost Report shall be deemed as having failed to complete the document screening.
  • The results of the document screening will be announced on July 31 2008 (Thu.).

  • Teams that fail to complete the document screening shall be prohibited from taking part in the competition.
    However, such teams may participate in the Follow-up Program (*) to be held during the period of the competition.
  • Teams that fail to complete the document screening are permitted to exhibit their vehicles in a specially provided pit area.

Vehicle inspection (technical inspections) Teams that fail to pass the technical inspections of the vehicle examination two days prior to the start of the Competition shall be prohibited from advancing to the dynamic events.
Introduction of new competition class From the 7th Competition in 2009, a new competition class will be offered for vehicles that have competed in previous Student Formula SAE Competitions of Japan.
Details will be announced at a later date.

Structure of teams Students and Faculty Advisors (FA)
Safety requirements of competition and compensation for loss or damage The level of safety at the competition shall be ensured in accordance with the safety rules of Formula SAE®.
In addition, sufficient safety training shall be provided for the competition judges and other personnel.
The organizer shall take out accident insurance for spectators and staff members.
